Trucking Cost Per Mile and Loaded-Mile Breakeven Calculator

What does this calculator measure?

Enter monthly fixed costs, variable expense per total mile and empty-mile share to calculate true operating CPM and loaded-mile breakeven. Empty miles consume costs and reduce the loaded miles available to recover them.

Inputs stay in this browser. Starting numbers are illustrative; replace them with actual operating inputs.

How is carrier cost per mile calculated?

True CPM = monthly fixed costs / total monthly miles + variable cost per total mile. Minimum loaded-mile breakeven = true CPM / (1 - empty-mile fraction). Deadhead margin drag is the increase from true CPM to that loaded-mile cost.

Use one consistent monthly tractor or fleet scope. Include trailer cost, ELD fees, taxes and benefits in other fields. Avoid counting both payments and depreciation for the same cost. No profit target or accessorial revenue is included. Starting values are illustrative, not benchmarks.
